Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs: “Killer Klowns” — The Dickies (1988)

The ringmaster shouts, “Let the show begin!”
Send in the Klowns, then let them do you in (Killer Klowns)
See a rubber nose on a painted face
Bringing genocide to the human race
It’s time to take a ride on the nightmare merry-go-round
You’ll be dead on arrival from the likes of the Killer Klowns
From outer space
Killer Klowns
From outer space…

This is going to be the shortest write-up ever.

Basically it’s like this: in 1988 writer/director brothers Charles and Stephen Chiodo released an utterly absurd yet eminently enjoyable film called Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

The title should tell you everything you need to know. Go watch it, it’s great fun. It easily earned its cult status, with a loud devoted following and retro action figures and haunted houses in Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.

Killer Klowns, man.

Punk band The Dickies also released Killer Klowns in 1988, and it’s a wonderful slice of anarchic, retro-50s-scifi circus horror that fits easily in any Halloween playlist. While lead singer Leonard Graves Phillips admitted he hadn’t seen the movie when he wrote the song, just go along with it anyhow. Not like it matters.

If you’ve ever wondered why the population’s going down
Blame it on the plunder from the likes of the Killer Klowns
From outer space
Killer Klowns
From outer space…
