Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs: “The Call of Ktulu” — Metallica (1984)

I don’t know how all ya’ll are doing but it seems we’re halfway through October. Accordingly, we’re halfway to Halloween.

And as such, we’re halfway through this season’s Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs.

Whether this fills you with giddy anticipation, nervous dread, or the existential plea to slow down time as to enjoy this time of year as much as possible is simply up to you, but for the fine staff of Hokeycorps Industries Ltd (me), we just want to keep the carousel spinning about.

So let’s do that, but without words. That’s right, another spooky instrumental (two more to come) from the Metallica boys. Hearkening all the way back to 1984’s powerhouse Ride The LightningThe Call of Ktulu is a near nine-minute piece of crushing atmospheric metal. An ode to the works of H.P. Lovecraft and his signature creation, the cosmic entity Cthulhu, the song is a perfect fit for any Halloween playlist.

Unless you ain’t into metal. Which is your prerogative, of course, but eesh…

Far be it from me to go off on yet another sidebar about the history of the character, his universe, H.P. Lovecraft, or even Metallica for that matter. Just hit play on that video below and these lords of metal speak for themselves… err, without lyrics, that is.
