Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs: “Kiss The Go-Goat” — Ghost (2019)

It ain’t always what it seems
When you cling onto a dream
It ain’t always there to please you
But he’s the guy you wanna do
And you know that it takes two
Luckily he wants to do you too
Satan
Lucifer
Osculum Obscenum…

Another Halloween playlist, another Ghost song, another perfectly prickly pile of pop panache.

And more about SATAN! Aint that a kick in the pants?

In all honesty, I get a big kick out of the band and how they dress occult darkness and Satanic imagery in such catchy pop hooks, and Kiss The Go-Goat does not disappoint in the slightest. This song is a groovy 60s dance party and don’t Ghost know it!

(Check out the video, man. It’s the most!)

You can interpret the song however you wish; I’ll go for the most surface and superficial of takes and say it’s your basic “Who’s your Daddy? SATAN!” platitude. Your mileage may vary of course. However you want to slice Papa Emeritus’s “1969” track apart, it doesn’t really matter.

Kiss The Go-Goat bridges that what you want/what you need chasm quite distinctly, if you ask me. And if you dabble in dark magic — and I don’t recommend it; THANKS, Aleister Crowley Tarot deck in the fall of 2005 for those 30 nights of fever and screaming nightmares — you might as well go straight to the source. If that’s your bag.

It ain’t always what it seems
That glitter wasn’t gold
As opposed to what they told you
But he’s the guy you wanna do
And you know that it takes two
Luckily he wants to do you too
Satan
Lucifer
Osculum Obscenum…
