Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs: “Bark at the Moon” — Ozzy Osbourne (1983)

And so it ends. Sadly, but inevitably, it ends. But not without one final blast of lyncanthropic license.

Here we are, on October 31st 2020. Halloween. The moment, quite frankly, many of us wait for and celebrate with infinite happitude. We live for these weeks of spooky atmos and supernatural ethos leading up to that final night, and now that moment is upon us.

And as such, we shut the door on this year’s Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs. Did I have fun with it? As always, infinitely so. But I have to admit, this year’s songs were a bit darker than usual. A lot creepier, a lot scarier, a lot uglier. Much like the entirety of 2020.

Not that we didn’t have our moments of yuks, but if this year’s list of songs is a reflection of the shitshow of a year we’ve had, it does not diminish the sweet macabre joyousness of Halloween. Not one iota.

Halloween 2020 falls on a Saturday. And on a Full Moon. The final song of the year had to be this obvious.

As we close the year out, we do so with twenty-five songs in our list. That’s a Hokeyblog record. I didn’t even set out to do so this October, but I’m gratified we pushed the limit again.

So enjoy your Perfectly Hallowing Eve, my strange and beautiful friends Stay odd, shadowy, spooky, and magical. And as always, ever hokey.

Kicking tires and lighting fires,

Screams break the silence
Waking from the dead of night
Vengeance is boiling
He’s returned to kill the light
Then when he’s found who he’s looking for
Listen in awe and you’ll hear him

Bark at the moon

Years spent in torment
Buried in a nameless grave
Now he has risen
Miracles would have to save
Those that the beast is looking for
Listen in awe and you’ll hear him

Bark at the moon
Hey, bark at the moon

They cursed and buried him Along with shame
And thought his timeless soul had gone
In empty burning Hell-unholy one
But now he’s returned to prove them wrong
So wrong, yeah baby

Howling in shadows
Living in a lunar spell
He finds his heaven
Spewing from the mouth of hell
And when he finds who he’s looking for
Listen in awe and you’ll hear him

Bark at the moon
Yeah bark at the moon
Yeah bark at the moon
Bark at the moon…
