Hokeyfolks! Guess what? We are now three nights away from Halloween, which of course means we’re in the home stretch!
The home stretch… of both the best season of the year and of course our own annual playlist of Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs, which means we’re going to keep pushing it hard until we wrap it up on October 31st in our usual grand style.
So let’s keep the party going with today’s featured song, The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown) as recorded by Judas Priest for their 1979 album Hell Bent For Leather. The song was originally written and recorded by Fleetwood Mac in 1970 (the Peter Green era of course, not the “classic” line-up featuring witches and Bill Hader impersonators and what-not),
This was of course the bluesy, more traditional rock version of Mac, and singer-guitarist Green wove a evocative tale full of creatures of the night, coming about and forcing themselves on helpless victims, leeching off their emotions and then leaving just as quickly.
All of it sounds so wondrously Halloweenish and vampiric, but of course that’s just on the surface. Green was lamenting the tormenting appeal of money, the intoxication of its acquisition, and how fleeting it remains within your grasp.
Fleetwood Mac’s original version was dark, heavy, and cautionary, but in the hands of the Metal God Rob Halford and twin guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, it’s turned into something wholly exciting and sinister of its own. So give The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown) a spin or two on your playlist. Not all demons come in red, after all…
