Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs: “Twilight Zone” — Golden Earring (1982)

Is… is it over already?

Damn.

Another year, another October, another round of Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs have come upon us and, with a heavy heart, have come to an end. And like clockwork, and as usual, ending right on Halloween.

This always makes me a bit sad. I kind of look forward to Buttkickin’ Halloween Songs all year. No kidding. I spend months looking around, discovering new songs (or songs that are new to me), or suddenly realizing that a REALLY obvious old song would work fine.

Take, for example, tonight’s submission, our Grand Finale to the 2018 season. Golden Earring’s classic 1982 single Twilight Zone, which featured one of the first videos I ever saw on MTV in February 1983. It creeped the hell out of me.

Fun fact: this song as inspired by Robert Ludlam’s Bourne Identity. Neato!

Anyway I’m REALLY proud because this year we featured a grand total of TWENTY-THREE SONGS this year, which is a Hokeyblog freakin’ RECORD! I think we featured a nice variety as well. Definitely not the usual slab of overplayed dreck, and certainly from a host of different musical genres.

Anyway, Boots and I are off for dinner and drinks and one last grasp of All Hallow’s Eve madness.

Have a most spooktacularly awesome Halloween, my strange and beautiful friends.

Love,
Hokeydude

“Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there’s a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him.

“It’s two A.M.”
It’s two A.M.
The fear has gone
I’m sittin’ here waitin’, the gun’s still warm
Maybe my connection is tired of takin’ chances

Yeah there’s a storm on the loose, sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence, all circuits are dead
Cannot decode, my whole life spins into a frenzy
Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far

Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

I’m falling down the spiral, destination unknown
Double-crossed messenger, all alone
Can’t get no connection, can’t get through, where are you

Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the borderline
When the hitman comes
He knows damn well he has been cheated
And he says

Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far

Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far

Help I’m steppin’ into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I’ve gone too far

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

When the bullet hits the bone…
